The State of the Blog Address

When I began this blog, I intended for it to be a collaborative. I realized once I started that I really didn’t know with whom I wanted to collaborate. I had some of my own views to clarify, lots to read and lots of people to listen to. While I’m still clarifying, reading and listening, I’ve also found myself with a complete block against starting other projects, one of which is getting one of them fancy paying job kind of things.

Please welcome to The Unnecesarean…

One of those kind, empathetic and articulate people that I want to be when I grow up.

Yes, submit your guest post and be heard!

Thank you for reading and contributing, both here and on Facebook. I don’t know how I can express gratitude in a way that doesn’t sound like a sappy Academy Awards speech, so just… thanks.

If you have any desire for a member login for commenting, I have 250 of them. They really don’t do anything besides bestow upon one the status of “Registered Commenter,” but if you are into that, let me know.

Speaking of comments, I have long toyed with the idea of using Disqus comments because Squarespace default comment sections stink, but it would render every previous comment invisible and inaccessible. I wish there was a way to subscribe to just one comment thread, but there isn’t at this point. Regardless, it seems that most of the discussion usually happens on Facebook and I’m good with that.

I imagine that we’ll soon draft some kind of comment moderation policy that besides the invisible one I have on there right now: Don’t be a turd. I find myself stuck sometimes between the fairness of free speech and wanting to maintain a safe space online for women (patients, consumers, clients, un-patients, former patients, whatever you fancy). I’ve never really minded if things veer off-topic, but I appreciate the many challenges associated with comment moderation.

Advertising on the blog might be a possibility in the future. I haven’t really thought about how to set it all up. I’m halfway done with a sidebar clean-up and am attempting to organize and consolidate static pages.

As always, I’m open to suggestions, comments, curmudgeonly griping, righteous indignation and other feedback regarding the blog.
